Hello everyone, its time for part 2 of the degu products series. In this post we are going to focus on some of the items you can purchase in Pets at Home that are suitable for your degus and are located in the reptiles section. Click to read more!
First off I must once again apologise for the poor quality of the pictures. All the pictures for this project were taken in batch and therefore under the same conditions.
The first product is Aspen Bedding. This bedding was designed specifically for snakes. I would imagine that P@H's sales of this product will rise very quickly considering they have started selling corn snakes. This bedding generally comes in litres; most mammals' owners will find their bedding comes in Kilograms. To give you some idea of conversion, 3 x 10 litres bags is about 1 medium bale of wood shavings. You can also buy the Aspen in larger quantities (in which case its usually 28kgs worth) but not at Pets at Home. The Aspen bedding is also much more expensive than all other beddings, but it is the best quality bedding for degus. It's far less dusty than all other beddings I have investigated as well as being highly absorbent.
Next up in the reptile section is the Habba Hut. This is a simple natural wood wedge. It makes a great tunnel for your goos! The following quote is from the Pets at Home website... "The Habba Hut by Zoo Med is a natural alternative to plastic or resin hiding areas. Zoo Med's Habba Hut adds privacy to any reptile terrarium. A perfect way to help reptiles feel safe and secure, whilst helping recreate their natural environment." This information also applies to degus. The wood is also degu safe so there is no need for concern.
My degus enjoy their tunnel very much and make frequent use of it; travelling both under and over. Occasionally they will also sleep in their tunnel.
Finally the reptile water dish. This is probably one of my favourite products I recommend using it as a feeding bowel rarther than a water dish as it is quite shallow. They look excellent in your wooden enclosure, a very natural aesthetic. Its also important to add that this is one of the few products I have located that is completely degu indestructible.
Thanks for reading everyone! Part 3 will be based on the birds section of pets at home, so please stay tuned for more...
