I have recently made a slight change to the bottom level of my enclosure. I have added about 35cm of substrate to the level. I placed a selection of branches on the level and made sure they were secure, this makes it easier for the degus to create structures beneath the bedding without it collapsing. I then proceeded to add my substrate, the substrate consists of :
Hay
Straw
Kiln dried wood shavings
Snake aspen bedding
Twigs
Foliage (such as fresh leaves, dead leaves, grass, stems, flowers)
Seeds and treats
The degus immediately took to this new facet of their enclosure; they have created many tunnels and spend large amounts of their time foraging here.
Hey there, i have recently tried to make my degus space to burrow on the bottom shelf, it consisted of hay, straw and wood shavings, but the mixture doesnt seem firm enough, i have put in lots of thick branches and tubes connecting from the top of the mixture to the bottom but they are really not interested, i have tried to make my own burrows but they just end up being walked on top of, iv had this in for nearly two weeks now and just wondering if theres any suggestions to make them start burrowing, thanks very much

Maybe if you put some seeds they will be interested in foraging in it? Just a suggestion.
